Soccer

Soccer season is in full swing.
Practice once a week.
Games on Saturdays.
It's the new routine.

Carmen is on team Cheetah.
Max is on team Red Fires.
It's really the socks that make the uniform.

Jim is coaching Carmen's team; it's a great group of girls.
Seven fun, energetic, adorable first graders eager to play.
They are learning how to listen and work as a team.
So far the season is off to a good start.

To no ones surprise, Max is super excited about Saturday game days.
He is always ready and eager to play.
Perhaps too eager.
He is working on passing and learning the importance of team work.
Hard but important lessons for a five-year-old.
It's amazing to see how happy he is when he's playing.

M's Game

As part of Max's birthday festivities, we took the kids to a Mariner's game to celebrate.
It was fun for them to be in the stadium, see the field, the players and the Moose.
Of course, there was lots of seat squirming and trips to the concession stand.
They were happy with Cracker Jack, licorice and soft pretzels
and the baseball cards being handed out by the ushers.
Go M's!

Fall

Welcome Fall.  So happy you are here once again.  Cooler days, time for long pants, sweaters and hoodies but still happy we get to wear sun glasses.  Keep the sun coming so we can still run around outside and play.  We are ready for soccer, football, apple cider, and using cozy blankets to cuddle. We welcome the beautiful sunrises and the leaves changing color.  My absolute favorite time of year.

F-I-V-E

Today is the day.  An entire handful.
F-I-V-E
So grown up; at least well on your way.
You continue to amaze us every day.
Your vocabulary and word choices.
Your passion and enthusiasm for soccer.
Your warm hugs and love of all things cozy and soft.
Your quick temper and intensity.
Your new-found interest in art
(crazy...but so, cool)
Your funny expressions and the way you laugh,
big belly laughs.
You give us so many moments to be proud
(along with lots of teachable moments too).
You keep us entertained with your dance moves and singing.
You love movies, the iPad, sports, sports and more sports.
You can't get enough.
You have confidence, swagger and style.
You are funny and sweet, rough and tumble.
We love it all.
We love you.
Happy 5th Birthday, Maxy!

Purple & Gold

We took the kids to the Husky football game this weekend.
They were troopers and mostly enjoyed the game
(they lasted well into the third quarter)
so we'll call that a win.
It helped they had friends around them, kettlecorn, pretzels and other treats.
It was also band day and Carmen had fun pretending she was conducting.
Go Huskies!

Happy first day of school!

Hooray, first day of school today!
First day of 1st grade for Carmen and Pre-K for Max.
Both were excited but a little nervous.
New teachers, new routines.
They both did amazing and enjoyed their first days.
Some good friends and familiar faces in Carmen's class.
Not so much for Max but he'll make quick friends, I'm sure.
I'm excited to see what the year brings for these two!

'Treasures'

So, I've been trying to get us organized to kick-off the school year.  As part of this process, I asked Carmen to clean out her backpack since she will be using it again this year.  I'm not entirely surprised by the volume of 'treasures' that were unearthed from her pack. Love her to pieces but her idea and mine about keep-worthy items are not quite in alignment.  Stickers, scraps of paper, paperclips, pencils, beads, sequins, rocks, string, and on and on. Man...this girl is a collector.
