Sleeping

Yes, this is Carmen sleeping.  Yes, she is on the landing of the stairs and yes she is actually sleeping, not just pretending.  She is in 'no nap' mode these days and I threatened taking fun, play-time with friends away if she didn't nap today.  In true Carmen style, she did nap in her own way.  At least she's sleeping...I'll take what I can get!

For your viewing pleasure

Today was Carmen's last ballet class.  She was sad for the session to end.  I was sad too since she finally got into it about half-way through the session and really started enjoying it after she warmed up a bit.  Today parents were allowed to watch in the room which was great but also made for lots of distractions.  It was really chaos at best but really fun to see and watch.

Here are way too many videos of Carmen and her classmates but I'm a proud mama so had to share.  This is the first time Carmen has participated in anything!

Happy viewing.

Animal crackers...in my shoe!

Maxy has two new pairs of footy-pajamas.  He hasn't worn footy pjs since before he could walk so he has no recollection of ever having them before.  He was super excited about them and particularly fascinated with the 'shoes.' He calls the footy part 'shoes' and in these pjs the 'shoes' are a little big.  He is constantly telling me that his 'shoes are broken.'  He says this when his foot comes out of the 'shoes' every so slightly; its just a quick fix and he's on his way.  This morning he kept complaining that his 'shoes' hurt.  I would make the adjustment but still he carried on about how ouchie it was.  After further investigation he apparently had two entire animal crackers in the bottom of his 'shoe.'  I have no idea how he managed to get two animal crackers shimmied all the way down to the bottom of his 'shoes' in footy pajamas but he managed to do it.  He was stepping on the crackers and making crumbs that were causing his feet to hurt; no wonder it wasn't too comfortable.  That's our boy! The adventure of parenting continues...

Last Day of Outdoor Pre-School

It was a fun couple of months exploring, collecting treasures and learning about nature.
Time to say good-bye to our teachers and friends.
Thanks Froggy Holler!

Carmen Conversation

This morning in the car:

Carmen:  "Dad said we could get a cat and two dogs sometime."
Me: "Dogs are a lot of work.  You have to walk them, feed them and clean up their poop."
Carmen:  "You can pick up the poop and I'll walk the dog when I'm older.  That's a deal!"
Me:  "No, Carmen, no deal."

Park time

Despite the chilly weather, we bundled up and took advantage of a beautiful fall day at the park.

School Picture Day

I was lucky to snap this picture of our two trouble-makers on the way out the door.  It's a rarity there is any picture of them both looking and smiling at the same time.  A definite success.  When I picked them up from school and asked how pictures went I was told Carmen refused to smile and Max stuck his tongue out in every picture.  Yep, that sounds about right...

Hot & Cold

This little guy is keeping us on our toes.  He's hot and cold all of the time. One minute he's smiling and laughing, the next minute he's upset, crying and fussing.  These pictures were taken less than a minute apart in the below order. Unbelievable.
Ahh, the life of a two-year-old!

Today's Outdoor Pre-school Find

Nothing...because class was cancelled due to the extra windy weather.
Instead, we spent the day:

Being silly and trying on Mom's boots.
Walking was not successful.

Working diligently on the computer
and doing some online shopping.

Admiring the wet and windy weather
and the rainbow from the window.

Helping Daddy install a new modem from Comcast.

A Funny

It's been a busy couple of mornings around here.  Daddy is traveling for work and gone for a few days.  This morning was particularly challenging.

Me, a bit flustered:  "You kids are pushing my buttons!"
Carmen, very calmly:  "Mom.  You don't have buttons.
Me, with a smile: "You're right; can't argue with that."
Me, under my breath:  I hate it when she's right!

C-A-R-M-E-N

She is getting better at writing her name.  There is still lots of practice needed but she's improving.  What I like most about the latest pass is that her name is one side and then for fun, a scary monster on the other. She likes to keep things interesting.
