Another Peek

Dear Gummy,

Today I got another peek at you.  You were sucking your thumb.  Seems like you will be following in your big sister's footsteps.  You are about 5 lb 10 oz and right on track to enter into this world some time in early to mid-September.  You are getting ready to make your debut and we are all trying to determine if it will be sooner or later.  It's an exciting time.  Your room is coming along; we just have a few more touches to make it perfect and then it will be ready and waiting for you. Your big sister Carmen likes to go through your things and knows that something is going on.  We talk about you often and Carmen knows her baby brother is in my tummy and has been practicing giving it kisses.  She's also been practicing rocking her babies and changing their diapers so she can be a big helper when you are here. I can't wait to see the two of you together.  Lots to look forward to.  In the meantime, keep growing and getting stronger and we'll see you in a few short weeks.

Big Girl Bed

Changes are coming to the Skurski household.  One of many exciting transitions came this past weekend when Carmen got her very own 'big girl' bed.  She watched and helped daddy take down her crib and has been enthusiastic about climbing up and playing on her new bed.  While she enjoys tucking in all of her animals and dolls under the covers, she's not quite sure how well she actually likes sleeping in her bed.  She's not one for covers and she has a tendency to be a mover in her sleep which makes for some restless nights. 

While we knew it was risky to move our spirited little one into a bed it seemed like the right time and while things have been a little rocky, they certainly could be worse--she's fallen out of bed twice and has lost Lamby more than a few times in the covers and hasn't been shy about letting us know.  Luckily it's only a mattress on the floor so the fall isn't far.  Each night has gotten progressively better. We're proud of our girl for dealing with all of the changes that are being thrown her way. 

Family Fun

Over the last several weeks were lucky to spend some much needed quality time with family.  Tash, Dan and Zane were in town for multiple weeks and we took advantage of seeing them as much as possible.  My parents then came for two weeks and Carmen spent the entire time keeping them thoroughly entertained.  She enjoyed Yankee Doodle rides from Papa, dragging every one's shoes around the house and demanding they put them on, sharing ice cream with Grandma, running around the backyard in the sprinkler, following her cousin Zane at every turn and playing in the 'wa wa' with Auntie Tash.   It was a great opportunity to get everyone together--I feel very blessed to have such a wonderful family. I look forward to the time we will spend together next year when we are all together again, with one more family member added to the mix.

Celebrating Baby Boy

This past weekend a wonderful event was thrown to celebrate the upcoming arrival of our baby boy.  It was a lovely luncheon with lovely food and even lovelier company.  We arrived in style--my mom made transportation easy by renting a limo which made us all feel oh so important.  Then, dining at the Olympic hotel in the Georgian room with six amazing women, all who have a very special place in my heart.

Our little bear was showered with such personal and thoughtful gifts to help prepare for his upcoming arrival.  I couldn't have asked for a better day. Thank you.
